Inside, the surreal puzzle-platform adventure game developed by Playdead took home a number of awards at the 13th Annual BAFTA Games Awards last night. The title, which follows a nameless protagonist as he attempts to navigate his way through a series of treacherous and dimly lit environments picked up four awards across the London-based ceremony.
Receiving accolades for “Artistic Achievement”, “Narrative”, “Game Design” and “Original Property” the indie title saw off competition from a number of “Triple A” titles including Uncharted 4, Dishonored 2 and Titanfall 2.
After Playdead’s previous title Limbo failed to take home any of its four nominations back in 2011 the Danish developers were far happier this time around, stating: “After we were nominated for four awards back in 2011 and we didn’t get any, we’ve had an insatiable thirst for these awards so thank you for keeping us hungry”.
Whilst Inside took home the most awards across the ceremony, it was Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 that championed the prestigious honour for “Best Game of 2016”. The final chapter of Nathan Drake’s narrative saw off a competitive group which included Titanfall 2, Stardew Valley, Overwatch, Inside and Firewatch.
