Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead! .
